چکیده
Mulberry is the chief food plant for silkworm further mulberry is also having many active pharmacokinetics principles. DNJ is one of the active pharmacokinetic principles with potent capability of inhibiting hyperglycemia. In our study, we screened some of the important mulberry varieties of south India to identify the DNJ content. Derivatized samples of each variety of mulberry leaves were analyzed by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) with photodiode array detector. Derivatization of each sample was done by the 9-fluorenylmethyl succinimidyl carbonate. DNJ concentration varied between 0.68-2.72 mg/gm in different mulberry varieties (K-2, S-13, S-34, and V-1). The order of 1deoxynojirimycin concentration in different verities was K-2 > S-13 > S-34 > V-1. Though V-1 variety was developed by breeding methods it did not contains more content of DNJ when compared to the K-2 which was developed by natural selection. As K-2 variety exhibited highest content of 1-deoxynojirimycin it can be exploited for extracting 1-deoxynojirimycin commercially for pharmaceutical purpose.

An Easy and Simple Method for Estimating Total Shoot Length During Screening and Evaluation of Mulberry(Morus spp.) Genotypes
In mulberry (Morus sp.), grown for its foliage, which is the sole food for the silkworm (Bombyx mori L.), evolving high yielding varieties is a long drawn and laborious process. One of the important selection parameter that has significant positive correlation with leaf yield is Total Shoot Length [TSL] of the mulberry plant. Measuring the length of all the shoots of the test genotypes to get t...

In the present study, the extraction technology and preparative separation of 1-deoxynojirimycin from mulberry leaves were systematically investigated. Four extraction parameters (ethanol concentration, extraction temperature, extraction time and ratio of solvent to sample) were explored by response surface methodology (RSM). The results indicated that the maximal yield of 1-deoxynojirimycin wa...

1-Deoxynojirimycin (DNJ, C₆H13NO₄, 163.17 g/mol), an alkaloid azasugar or iminosugar, is a biologically active natural compound that exists in mulberry leaves and Commelina communis (dayflower) as well as from several bacterial strains such as Bacillus and Streptomyces species. Deoxynojirimycin possesses antihyperglycemic, anti-obesity, and antiviral features. Therefore, the aim of this detaile...
متن کاملEffects of Mulberry Leaf Extract Rich in 1-Deoxynojirimycin on Blood Lipid Profiles in Humans
Mulberry leaves are rich in 1-deoxynojirimycin (DNJ), an inhibitor of α-glucosidase. We previously showed that DNJ-rich mulberry leaf extract suppressed elevation of postprandial blood glucose in humans. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of DNJ-rich mulberry leaf extract on plasma lipid profiles in humans. An open-label, single-group study was conducted in 10 subjects with...
